What do you think about how modern bodybuilders look?
Seriously though. Compare it to the Arnold era. I know which look I prefer. And the distended bellies is just not a good look at all (I think this is due to growth hormone intake).
Arnold Schwarzenegger himself recently weighed in on this issue…and I couldn’t agree more. Here’s a video of what he had to say…
At the 50 second mark he talks about how the modern guys…
“Have their stomachs sticking out”.
“It used to be that you should have a V-shaped body”.
So true!
“It doesn’t look right any more”
at 1 minute 30.
“This is unacceptable; the way bodybuilding is going”
at 2 minutes 30.
Personally, I think we should be rewarding aesthetics, beauty, in addition to size, leanness and so on. You can see this is obviously my preference from my pic here.

I have to agree. In order to win a (or even compete) in a body building competition, I would expect the competitors to all look 100% physically athletic. Big muscles are great but it doesn’t mean much if you have a “beach ball belly”. Just like six pack abs don’t mean anything if you don’t have any muscles.
You are 100% right. When you abuse the laws of nature it shows. The muscles that are made out of proportion big as though there is no upper limit of functional, natural, and beautiful come with the added cost of disfigured joints and belly fat pushing out the 6 pack abs. The great masters of ancient Greece, Rome, and the Renaissance knew what is physically beautiful and we should profit from their timeless aesthetic.
Frank Zayn and Arnold body should be the ideal body for the modern era bodybuilding competitions, bring back the golden era of bodybuilding.
Agreed, these guys today look bloated and sick. Not sick in a good way. They look like experiments gone wrong and they all look alike. Remove their faces and you couldn’t tell one from the other. Some of us out here don’t even really care about having a 6 pack (I don’t anyway). My focus is more of a ‘chiseled’ look, for lack of a better term. Along the Mike Tyson type. Something where you don’t have to stress on diet daily to keep up on it. I’m more into strength and functional power than straight looks anyway. Back to the point though, these guys today don’t look good at all. Don’t even look strong really. Just bloated and puffy. I see youtube vids and half of them are winded just waking down a street. Seems a far cry from the old days when this sport was about health and fitness.
Yes, the classic bodybuilding physique is so beautiful! Male or female, it still looks real, it is achievable, pleasing to the eye. A nice hourglass taper, leanness, and great conditioning, it’s not all about size. I keep hoping that it will make a comeback in competition. How much bigger can folks really get? How healthy is it to just keep going in this direction? Thanks for sharing this, Mark.
I as going to buy spa until I saw picture of darshan before and after photo and noticed b4 tattoo on right arm then after photo on left so thinking not same person, just want to sell products so decided not to buy
@Trevor he’s standing in the mirror in one pic and not in the other, hence one image is “flipped”. On the TSPA testimonials page I give Darshan’s Facebook and email address, as well as the explanation I just have you got the tattoo.
@ Trevor. Its me, Darshan. Am sorry about that after pic. I did explain this previously to a similar comment posted when Mark orignally posted this a few yrs back. TSPA is the real deal….I still prefer the original tspa…but Mark says he has added some new twists which make the new version even better. I believe him. Please buy the program….mail me any questions you have via my FB. Cheers!
I like what Arnie has to say. I first started bodybuilding because I was very thin & tall & I wanted to look ‘like’ Steve Reeves, Reg Park et al. There seems also to be a bigger focus today on ab muscles, whereas Arnie also mentions the ‘vacuum’ in the stomach area, especially when doing the double biceps. As an example, my wife hates the way overly muscled menlook, which turns her off bodybuilding for men & women, but she, and others ladies, like a man with a strong athletic looking body that also looks great in a suit as well as shorts and tees. Good for Arnie & good for you Mark!
Loved this. Just too bad society is so blinded by bulk and BS.
@Darshan. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. You wouldn’t believe how often this happens. I’ve even thought about just flipping the pic in photoshop, but then it would be inaccurate as the mirror pic SHOULD be flipped, so I don’t want to do it. Seriously, at least once a month I have to explain and defend this pic to somebody somewhere lol. Of course, it’s always ok when I tell them to look a little closer and notice the mirror selfie.
Again, many thanks for stopping by.
