Butter is goooooooooood.
Hey, even Time magazine is recommending we eat butter (the real stuff, not the plasticized oil we called margarine).
But we all need a change sometimes.
Read to try something new?
I’ve put together a list of 8 alternatives to butter to spread on your bread/toast.
They’re healthy and delicious.
If you have any more ideas, please let me know in the comment section below.
8 Butter Alternatives
.
(1) HUMMUS
Made from chick peas, hummus is delicious.
It’s healthy and you can pick up a full-fat or low-fat version depending on your dietary needs and goals.
.
(2) CREAM CHEESE
Spread some cream cheese over toast for a tasty snack. The bonus is that it is high in protein.
Also try Quark. Quark is a fat-free, carb-free cream cheese. About 25g protein per little pot.
I buy this one. It’s like spreading protein on your toast.
Oh and by the way, it makes a GREAT filling for a baked potato!
.
(3) COTTAGE CHEESE
Similar to the above.
Cottage cheese is a staple in virtually every bodybuilder’s diet.
Spread some liquid protein on that toast!
.
(4) PEANUT BUTTER
NATURAL peanut butter that is.
Not the supermarket trans-fat type.
You know it’s natural if there’s a layer of oil floating on top.
High in protein, good fats, and unbelievably tasty – what more do you want?
.
(5) AVOCADO
A healthy spread with great fats.
Personally, not my cup of tea, but some people love it.
.
(6) GUACAMOLE
A low GI, healthy spread for your toast.
Yes I know that guacamole is made from avocado, but the addition of other ingredients makes a world of difference in taste in my opinion.
I love guacamole – especially the chunky type!
.
(7) BANANA
If you’re on a high-carb diet, or carbing up as part of a CKD like the MANS diet, this is PERFECT!
Tip: Try sprinkling a little cinnamon on top…I’m drooling here 😛
.
(8) SLICED EGG
Not so much a spread, but a sliced boiled egg (with a slightly runny yolk) on toast is delectable.
You could go scrambled here, but it’s not the same in my opinion.

Your Buddy,

Natural Almond Butter is excellent as well… I LOVE natural peanut butter, but like to switch it up every now and then with almond butter which has very similar macros.
@ChickenHead. Good choice! Love almond butter 🙂
8 oz. smoked salmon, 8 oz. cream cheese, 1\2 tsp. grated lemon peel, tsp. lemon juice, fresh finely chopped dill, chives snipped into bits with scissors, lightly kosher salt & freshly ground pepper it..
mash it & mow it!
adjust to ur consistency and buds of course.. I personally like mine really chunky with as little cream cheese as possible and a bit tart and i throw in bits and pieces for variety – i.e. hot sauce, capers, minced garlic (grab a toothbrush or learn to speak with ur mouth closed 🙂
really interested in this quark as a cream cheese substitute now though..
Now if only bread was healthy, then we’d be onto something here.
Toast is best with runny egg yokes.
I know bread isn’t that healthy, Kent. But you can make it low-carb. My brand is only 5g net carb per slice.
What brand Dave?
4th is the best. I love it…….
