A Millimetre A Day Makes You ‘Go The Extra Mile’

I was recently reading about one of the Arlington Futurity races years ago. It’s a horse race stretching 1 and 1/8th miles.
To be exact, that’s 71,280 inches (yes I’m a nerd and I calculated it lol). The difference between winning 1st and 2nd place that year was worth $100,000!
Here’s the interesting part…the winning horse won by just 1 of those inches! That’s a 1/71,280th difference – but it meant EVERYTHING!
We all know this is true for 100m sprinting, swimming, and pretty much every other sport you can think of. But it’s also a powerful analogy for achieving your goals. Let me explain…
All you have to do to excel is just that little bit extra. That little bit above and beyond what you should do, and you will stand apart from all the others. Just a little extra millimetre.
How can you do a little bit more? How can you be just a little better every day in your field?
1 suggestion I have is to decide that you are going to read something new in your field every single day. All it has to be is 15minutes/day. You’ll be astounded at how much extra knowledge you have at the end of just 1 week. And in 1 year, people will be coming to you for answers because of the expertise you have amassed.
Just a little millimetre a day. But the thing is…you gotta do it every day. Try me on this. You’ll be amazed.
We are often advised to go the extra mile. I say – just go an extra millimetre beyond what others are doing, and if you do it every day, you’ll soon be miles ahead of everyone else!
And it’s never crowded along the extra mile.
