Steve Austin hates his shoulders!
And “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash hates his legs! They talk about it together in the video below.
Do you hate a certain body part that you just wish would grow faster? You’re not alone!
Even guys you wouldn’t think would be unhappy with their body…are! As Nash himself says, “It’s the beauty of genetics”.
Here are Austin and Nash discussing this on Steve’s podcast…
In my own study of this issue, I identified the following 6 factors as the genetic “ingredients” that influence your potential in the iron game:
(1) Somatotype – Ectomorph, mesomorph, or endomorph.
(2) Skeletal Formation -Big guys usually have broad shoulders, a small waist, and medium length limbs.
(3) Neuromuscular Efficiency – The higher the better.
(4) Muscle Fiber Density – The higher the better.
(5) Myostatin – A deficiency allows you to build more muscle faster (pro bodybuilders have a myostatin deficiency). more here
(6) Muscle Length – The longer the better.
For a more in-depth look at these factors, please read this post on bodybuilding genetics.
Before anyone gets depressed, see your genetics as a challenge, not a roadblock. I have crappy genetics for building muscle. 2 body parts responded a little better – pecs and biceps – and apart from that, everything else has simply been hard damn work over many years.
I’ve the wrong somatotype, skeletal formation, low muscle fiber density, and my myostatin levels are not deficient. However, I think I’ve done quite well. See my full transformation over the years in this post.
How did I do it? Years of not skipping workouts, logging and tracking every session to make sure I was progressing, getting enough food and protein every day, and taking sufficient rest between workouts.
My own experimentation as well as researching the real scientific literature on muscle-building culminated in what is called Targeted Hypertrophy Training (THT). Soon after I put it out on the web for free, people were writing to me telling me they were experiencing the same results.
Building muscle is a science. There shouldn’t be any guesswork. The right number of sets, the right frequency, the best exercises, the right rep range – it’s all been figured out. Download THT training right now for free. Pack on muscle and get results like these guys did.
DO YOU HAVE A BODY PART YOU’RE FRUSTRATED WITH? SHARE WITH ME BELOW. (And if you like(d) wrestling, what was your fav era?).
Train With Intensity!
Mark
P.S. How awesome did Rick Rude look back in the day?
If you want to get ripped like that, get my Total Six Pack Abs program. All science, no fluff. It works!
But Steve was right – his wheels weren’t up to snuff. And those tights!
haha I feel a little better! I hate my calves 🙁
While we’re on the subject of wrestling let me say, I don’t watch it anymore. I haven’t watched it in years. I think the best eras were:
(1) Late 80’s/Early 90’s WWF – Hogan, Warrior, Macho Man etc. Summerslam ’92 at Wembley!
(2) nWo era in WCW. ’96 – ’98. Changed the industry. Hogan heel turn. Moved WCW ahead of WWF.
(3) Attitude Era WWF.
Crap body part – my chest!! Grrrrr!!!!!
My favorite wrestling era: NWO cuz it was just too sweeeeeeet!
I’m in the same boat as you Mark, my pecs & biceps respond to almost anything,my calves on the other hand… stubborn, stubborn, stubborn!
I just read Roy & Ree’s comments and it made me smile as for some strange reason my calves grow quickly with little stimulation. Strange how people are different eh?
For me; i hate my biceps and traps!
I have slim legs in general but i’m fine with it specifically with today’s esthetic norms (that seem to easily accept slim legs on guys).
What i don’t like is my traps who seem to grow just by looking up !!! i really never liked traps on anyone, for me the make shoulders disappear and create a less quare and harmonious look. Any tips for how to avoid working them out are welcome !)
I hate my arms, they are just sooo long I don’t think I’ll ever build anything onto them :/
my biceps will grow if I look at a weight. I could do a million dips and pushdowns and my triceps wont haha!
I was there when Ultimate Warrior beat Hulk Hogan for the tittle at Wrestlemania. I was like 8 or something but still remember it. I still remember with Rick Rude, pulling the girls out of the crowd kissing them and the girl almost fainting
My favorite historical professional wrestler was Gorgeous George from the 1950’s. According to the Encyclopedia of Bad Taste, he hired a team of psychoanalysts to figure out how to be the most despised villain possible. The psychoanalysts told him to demand that the wrestling mat be sprinkled with perfume and it had fans so enraged that they almost foamed at the mouth. This attracted magnitudes more people to come to his performances so that they could pay to be pissed off. Profits soared. Reading about it is enough to make your sides split.
the hardest muscle gain is my chest… my biceps grow on only 6 sets a week, they pop, but the chest, doesn’t grow for shit.
@Tony. Awesome! Hogan vs Warrior was mind-blowing.
@Barney. Cool. Shows how much psychology Gorgeous George put into being the perfect heel.
