1) Yes. Sugar free gum is made with sugar alcohols so just don't consume a whole lot of it (no even a full packet in a day)
2) You need to take a body fat reading every week
3) No. Set it to the recommended setting.

Ugh sorry one more haha, do I set it to the desk job one to calc the macros? That puts me at around 1300 cals a day, isn't that close to going into starvation mode? And should I go as low as allowable on the carbs so my fat is greater or does it not matter that much? I'm really sorry about all these questions.

Alright thanks mark. I have two more questions (sorry). Is gum allowed on TSPA? You didn't put that down and my gum has like 2 carbs. Also how can I be sure that the 1.5 or more pounds of weight loss is pure fat and not muscle? Thanks so much for everything Mark!

@Mike Huber. Great news on the PAP! I've been getting so much positive feedback about that. Thanks a lot :)
@Air. Thanks!
@Taylor. Since you're sedentary now, I would advise you to stick to a low carb diet. You'll also need less calories now so what I would do basically listen to my hunger levels. Your body will need less food now, so it's not going to prompt you for food as often. Also, keep taking creatine during your lay off because there's good evidence that it helps maintain your muscle mass if you can't train.

@josselin. I would agree actually. However, the important thing is that since he was consistently using the same method to measure his body fat, his progress is very real, even if the absolute figures don't turn out to be 100% accurate.

Mark I have a bit of a problem. I recently sustained stress fractures in my L5 region of my lower back (most likely from pole vaulting, and it's not good) and I literally can't do any lifting or running for the next several weeks (maybe even a month or more). Prior to this I was following your diet and exercise program from TSPA but now that I can't do any of that (exercising) I am completely lost on what my macros should be and what I should do during this time cuz now I'm so not motivated and just know the diet will fail soon because of this lack of motivation. My biggest problem is I don't know my macros. I love the book and can tell that it will change my life without a doubt as it was working for the two weeks I have been doing it but this is a huge problem I'm dealing with. Any help would be beyond appreciated. Thanks!

Awesome! I'm on week four of TSPA. I was a little afraid that something went wrong cos at the end of week 1 I had lost 0.968 kg of lean mass while bf remained at 12%.
at the end of week 3 though, I regained what I had lost and put on another 1.074kg of lean mass, and had a bf% of 9.3%. haven't got calipers, I've just been using the calculator on your website. since I started with that I'll stick to it, my goal is to be on TSPA for 8 weeks, and to hit at least 8% bf. lower is better! :D
thanks a lot Mark!
